Tenuta I Fauri – Wine is my family, my passion, my love\u2026 and them it\u2019s a way of life!<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Tenuta I Fauri is a family property located on the hills\u00a0of Maiella, in the province of Chieti (Abruzzo, Italy),\u00a0a land producing wine for over 2,000 years. The\u00a0property is currently managed with passion by Domenico,\u00a0Luigi and Valentina DiCamillo, respectively father, son and\u00a0daughter. Rich in know-how passed down from generation to\u00a0generation for over 100 years, they work daily to perpetuate\u00a0local wine traditions, work on quality and make their region\u00a0better known.<\/strong><\/p>\n

T he property covers 35 hectares planted with vines, spread over\u00a0six different soils \/ municipality (Chieti, Francavilla al Mare, Miglianico,\u00a0Ari, Bucchianico and Villamagna). Every year Tenuta I\u00a0fauri produces 7 different still wines (Baldovino Montepulciano,\u00a0Baldovino Cerasuolo, Baldovino Trebbiano, Ottobre Rosso, Passerina,\u00a0Pecorino, Rosso dei\u00a0Fauri) and 3 sparkling wines\u00a0(Alba Rosa Rosato Frizzante,\u00a0Graffio Nero Rosso Frizzante,\u00a0Spumante dei Fauri ).<\/p>\n

What do you make the\u00a0choice to be a winemaker ?
\n<\/em><\/strong>\u201cActually, I\u2019m the 3rd generation.\u00a0I grew up in a family\u00a0of winemakers and farmers.\u00a0I was not sure about\u00a0following this path. To be\u00a0honest, at the end of high\u00a0school I did not choose to\u00a0work in the world of wine. I first went to study at a university of\u00a0bio-chemistry to become a pharmacist.\u00a0At this time and more particularly in this part of Italy the world\u00a0of wine was above all a man\u2019s world. However, at the end of\u00a0my studies I realized that what I really wanted was to live and\u00a0work in the vineyard. I had just realized that it was my destiny\u00a0to become a winemaker even though I knew it would be difficult\u00a0for me as a woman. However, I decided to follow this path, so I\u00a0resumed my studies to become a winegrower so that I could one\u00a0day take over the family vineyard. Today it is not so rare to find\u00a0a woman winemaker, it is even more and more \u2018normal\u2019 in my\u00a0area.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Where does the name of Tenuta I Fauri come\u00a0from?<\/i>
\n<\/strong>\u201cIt come from an area where we have a very little country house\u00a0and where one of my ancestors was born. All around there was\u00a0a monastery where priests made olive oils, wines and some other\u00a0products from agriculture. The name of the priests corporation\u00a0was Faury. Also we found on our property a big stone where\u00a0there is artwork (two lions with a ram). We currently use as\u00a0our logo. It\u2019s a symbol of — christianity.\u201d (Valentina Di Camillo,\u00a0owner & winemaker)<\/i><\/p>\n

What does wine mean to you ?
\n<\/strong><\/em>\u201cFirst, wine is my family and them it\u2019s a way of life. It\u2019s a complete\u00a0work. I mean it\u2019s full of satisfaction, happiness, a gift from\u00a0Mother Nature but you also have to face different kinds of vintages\u00a0and different problems\u2026 However, I really enjoy a lot what\u00a0we do.\u00a0I\u2019m really pround to preserve my rural roots, my heritage \/ origins.\u00a0If I think about wine I think about my father, my grand-father\u00a0and my great grand-father around the table, drinking wine,\u00a0having really good and handmade food. It\u2019s Italy ! We have a\u00a0gorgeous variety of wines in italy (different terroir, grapes, approach,\u00a0region\u2026etc). It\u2019s a part of our way of life. \u201c<\/p>\n

What make your terroir so specific?
\n<\/strong>\u201cI live in an almost undiscovered region, the Abruzzo region.\u00a0I mean it\u2019s not yet so famous like Tuscany or Piemonte because\u00a0we are really hard workers but we have to open the beauty of\u00a0this region to the world and it\u2019s the right time to do it. As the\u00a0beauty, the strength is the fact there is a big contrast between big\u00a0mountains and really a few kilometers far from the Adriatic Sea.\u00a0So, the strength of the mountains and the freshness of the sea\u00a0made the beauty of our terroir. We try to summarize this in our\u00a0wines. You have to feel the power of\u00a0the variety, the mountains and in\u00a0same time the acidity and the freshness\u00a0due to the sea. It\u2019s a kind of\u00a0half of way between to the beauty\u00a0of one side and the other side of the\u00a0region.<\/em>
\nBasically, we are farmers. We really\u00a0love choosing the land where we\u00a0will grow vines, to choose a good\u00a0quality of soil, a right and great terroir.\u00a0It\u2019s a big challenge to manage\u00a0all this kind of terroir but each one\u00a0has its proper style, identity and\u00a0expression. It\u2019s a challenge but a\u00a0chance to learn more about wines.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

What is the signature of your wines?
\n<\/strong>\u201cI think the first fact is all wines that we produce are very expressive\u00a0of the variety. We don\u2019t use oak too much because we\u00a0don\u2019t want to cover up to much the grape\u2019s flavors. All our wines\u00a0are very clean, gastronomic and food friendly. They keep our\u00a0mouth very clean. They have a big personality due to the respect\u00a0of the land where they\u2019re from but also the respect of our tradition\u00a0(many vast traditions). We really want to feel the roots, the\u00a0earth\/terroir and the grapes. We want to make wines showcase\u00a0the season and the vintage because everyone is different and we\u00a0must taste\/feel the difference. You should be able to feel the sun if\u00a0it was a sunny vintage or the rain if it was rainy season. It\u2019s very\u00a0important to us ! It makes the difference between a wine and a\u00a0standardized drink.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Do you have any future plans for the winery?
\n<\/strong>\u201cWe have just rebuilt the old farm house of the family. We want to\u00a0be able to host people who come to visit us and to keep them with\u00a0us\u2026 it\u2019ll be a kind of Bed & breakfast. We want to create a family\u00a0atmosphere, to go deeper into our family, roots and region. We\u00a0want to provide a personal and strong wine experience.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
